Green is not the new Red

This just in: the congress of the green party LMP has decided to slam the door on this new anti-Orban alliance called 'Together 2014', which is made up of three practically non-existent organizations and a technocratic millionaire who appears to be charismatic because of our well-known politicians being either assholes or retards or both. As you may already know, these organizations are the liberal outfit of dynamic yuppie go-getters called Million For Press Freedom or just Milla, the more or less official action network and political meme of the more or less affiliated trade unionists called Szolidaritás, and the businessman's own thin-tank which may very well have more than 3 people among its ranks. The name of the guy is Gordon Bajnai, pronounced 'buy-nuy'. He used to be prime minister for one year and he did some austerity which was not cool, but the capitalists seemed to like it.

This decision of LMP was welcomed with a great deal of support by the hard left, and you may be surprised to hear me disapprove it, but that's what I actually do. And I have quite a few good reasons to do so. It's not that I am "gravitating to the right" when the situation develops like some of my late activist friends would suggest, no! I'm not gravitating anywhere! As a matter of fact, I am much more extreme than most of the hippies and ragtag activists who make up the alternative left-wing scene, so this is really not the point here...

So what's the point? Well, the point is that this nightmare unleashed by Mr Orban and his cronies must be ended. That's it. That's the story. That's what the vast majority of Hungarian people demand. By now they seem to know all too well how much better (i.e. less evil) those "bloody commies" are. Regardless of what you think about Mr Bajnai being an evil technocrat and his "coalition" being pulled out of David Copperfield's hat, there's one thing you must certainly admit: this story is resonating very well in the ears of common working people, and you cannot blame them for it. Man, they don't have any illusions here! You know, sometimes it really is quite arrogant from intellectuals to accuse them of such behaviour, and this is one of those moments. No, they don't have illusions! They just know that having to choose between the Capitalism of Eastern Europe and the Feudalism of Western Asia (somewhere between the Taklamakan and the Caspian Sea), they want to choose the former. That's it. That's how you make your life more livable. End of story.

It's not whether you like this man or not. I, for one, really don't. He's a spooky neoliberal businessman completely detached from Hungarian reality, a little eichmann who made his fortune in very treacherous ways. (That's pretty much the only way to make a fortune in Hungary!) He is extremely normal and sociable from a psychological point of view, but then again, Adolf Eichmann was also very normal. He was not a faithful Nazi! He just wanted to be successful like the businessman of today, like Gordon Bajnai. But you know what? This guy is even more normal than Adolf Eichmann! He's so normal, it makes you piss in the pants!

Gordon Bajnai is the banality of evil in its purest...

The momentary leader of LMP, Andras Schiffer, actually said he totally respects him and they are totally in touch, but they don't want to co-operate because of this and that. Now what the fuck? I mean, this is the exact opposite of what should be said and done! They shouldn't respect him or keep in touch with him to any degree, but nonetheless they should negotiate. This is really like Churchill and Stalin having to ride the same boat: if you don't co-operate, you die.

It's not that LMP would have to "go behind the commies" and all that, no! They are engaged in this story precisely to become a counterbalance, that's how the whole thing was planned! The one and only thing they asked from LMP is to sit down at the table and negotiate. I mean, they would be able to keep bitching just like before! Actually, they should! Not only because Mr Bajnai is not so cool as he looks like, but also because their bitching would be most essential in order to convince voters that this is not the zombie politics of MSZP anymore.

It was a win-win-win solution: a win for the democratic opposition, a win for LMP, and a win for the radical left as well. Now come on! This holier-than-thou moralistic bourgeois clergy has nothing to do with the radical left! They don't belong to us and we don't belong to them. Green is not the new Red! Well, sure as hell there are many good people in the party, but most unfortunately there are just as many disgusting reactionary assholes too. That's what you get when you keep preaching about the outdatedness of the "left-right dichotomy" and all that stupid demagoguery. No matter what kind of stuff you would call a revolution, LMP is not a revolutionary force. And if you're not a revolutionary force plus the electoral system of your country is being fucked up beyond all recognition, what does that mean? It means you have to jump on the bandwagon. There's no other option.

What prevailed in this party referendum was the triumph of ideology over simple common sense. You know, pretty much like in the Tea Party, actually! Yeah man, it's really the same! Ideology, instead of being a tool to understand and change the world, has now become the goal itself. Society, on the other hand, the betterment of which should be the goal of ideology, has become just a means to enforce and reassure it.

What? You say no? Can I ask you why? What exactly did they win with this shit except for an opportunity to pat themselves on the shoulder saying they resisted the force of the devil? Well, okay, okay! They will sure as hell get patted by the right wing too! Very generously, to say the least! This is one of those by now extremely rare moments when Fidesz can celebrate victory. Bravissimo, guys, you've made it! You just kept your steadfast commitment to, err... Something!

I think the real question in the minds of most people is not whether or not this was a good decision, but the reason why this actually happened? I claim it happened because LMP has always been a party without any kind of structure and discipline. Man, they were even proud of this! For the pointy-headed urban intellectuals with the self-esteem of Jesus Christ this was sure as hell the golden opportunity to flourish, but for everyone else it was just a truckload of nonsense! Nobody with the tiniest bit of sanity and an obligation to work 40 hours a week was in the fucking mood to be engaged in the self-serving ideological struggles of retarded hippies against each other for reasons nobody has the faintest clue about! This is why LMP, after two long years in Parliament, had still no more than 700 registered members (mostly in Budapest) to show off. Just to let you compare, the "rival" Jobbik has that many local chapters all staffed with party members paying their dues.

Okay, here's the moral of this sordid tale:

If everyone is held responsible for everything,
Nobody will take responsibility for anything!

That's it. That's how the game works. Community is totally okay, and it's really not that everything has to be assigned like in a German company, but still there has to be a formal structure of core responsibilities strictly enforced. No woodstock, no anarchism, no holistic bullshit! I mean, fuck this attitude! This is why the Spanish Revolution failed, this is why Wisconsin failed, and this is why the Occupy movement is failing as well. And now LMP. It was not the voters but the self-important intellectual moralists who voted for this foolish decision. If only it were up to those having voted for them in 2010, I guess they would have turned out 9 to 1 in its favour. But the bitter truth is that they were unable to organize their voters into a real political force. After this historic decision, all but one of the parliamentary faction's leaders (including the president) resigned. The traitors, you may say! Well, I might not paint the devil on the wall by saying there will be a few more resignations to come...

Note: they just spent nine hours trying to elect a new president or convince Mr Schiffer to take the job after having imposed his will on the party. It appears that he didn't quite like the idea of taking it and neither did anyone else. Well, this is what I mean when I talk about a lack of structure and discipline...
